Maharashtra: Deputy CM Ajit Pawar to present state budget today

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Ajit Pawar to present state budget today at 2pm in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. This marks the first budget under the newly-formed Mahayuti government and Ajit Pawar’s 11th budget as Finance Minister, according to a press release from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).

During the COVID-19 pandemic, when many states struggled financially, Pawar’s fiscal management and prudence earned praise. Maharashtra’s past budgets under his leadership have prioritised various sectors, including farmers, laborers, women, Dalits, tribals, students, and youth.

Last year’s pre-election budget was lauded as both inclusive and transformative, with its public-friendly policies playing a crucial role in the Mahayuti government’s return to power. According to the reports, Devendra Fadnavis-headed BJP-led government will have to do a lot of balancing as it presents the Budget 2025-26.

Much focus on social welfare and women empowerment scheme has put strain on state finances and had negative effects on developmental fund allocations. So much focus will be on taxation and managing the funds.
