Key Details of the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana:
Eligibility Criteria: Women aged between 18 and 60 years, residing in Delhi, with an annual family income of less than ₹3 lakh and who are non-taxpayers, are eligible for the scheme. Government employees and individuals already receiving financial aid from other government schemes are excluded.
Budget Allocation: The Delhi government has earmarked ₹5,100 crore for the implementation of this scheme over the next year.
Registration Process: An online portal is being developed to facilitate the registration of eligible beneficiaries. The government plans to integrate data from various departments to streamline the verification process and ensure accurate identification of applicants.
The scheme was a significant promise in the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) manifesto during the Delhi assembly elections. Its approval underscores the government's dedication to fulfilling its commitments to the public.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, addressing the media, stated, "Today is Women's Day. We had our cabinet meeting today, and our cabinet has approved the scheme—the promise that we made during the Delhi elections to provide ₹2,500 to the women." She further mentioned that a committee led by her has been formed to oversee the scheme's implementation, and that the registration process will commence soon with the launch of the dedicated portal.
This initiative aligns with similar efforts in other BJP-governed states, such as the 'Ladli Behna Yojana' in Madhya Pradesh and the 'Ladki Bahin Yojana' in Maharashtra, aiming to provide financial support to women from economically weaker sections.
The government anticipates that approximately 15 to 20 lakh women will benefit from the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana, reflecting a significant step towards women's empowerment and financial inclusion in Delhi.
